Eskom wants 45% tariff hike

Oct 13 2009 10:46

Johannesburg - Electricity parastatal Eskom wants a 45% tariff hike every year for the next three years.

This is according to its Multi Year Price Determination submission document to the National Energy Regulator of SA which was handed to the media before a briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

There were other options, but Eskom recommended this option be considered as it "mitigates the impact of price increases on customers and the economy and provides for a sustainable long-term solution".

The parastatal said government had endorsed this approach which was based on the smoothing of price increases.

The second option, not recommended by Eskom, was an increase of 146% in the first year of the Multi Year Price Determination period.

It's a fallacy that we ever had cheap electricity! In 1999 we paid the same / Kw as the Belgians ... There is something seriously wrong with the management and general thinking here!

Changing a lightbulb is not going to solve anything. Eskom management will just take the liberty that good citizens will provide by saving to pay their people bigger bonusses. I am going over to 100% solar/gas. Boikot Eskom is a great idea, if everyone could only afford the capital input. But I am not going to pay more so they can waste more.

Its gonna hurt! Do you really want to lower your electricity bill? Change your lightbulbs to LED bulbs. Go to http://www.c2r.co.za to see the variety of bulbs that is available. Bulbs for any fitting and any situation! Residential, commercial, industrial solutions available. There is NO NEED FOR LOADSHEDDING, there is NO NEED FOR OUTRAGEOUS TARIFF INCREASES!

We as tax payers demand: The ANC gov: Sell the f...ing war ships and planes they "bought" through the so called arms deal. We demand that all cabinet ministers , all MPs of all 20 provinces drive Golfs... We demand that all solar systems we install be tax deductible. We demand a new board and management for Eksdom. We demand all new power installations be "clean" so that in 10 year's time we don't have to pay for new power sources that don't pollute!
