Johannesburg - Public Service Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has urged female lawyers to utilise the law as a weapon against all forms of injustice in the country, her office said on Sunday.
“We depend on you to use the law as a tool to dig up the roots of injustice from all corners of our country," she said at the annual Law Society of the Northern Province women's conference, held at the CSRI in Pretoria on Friday.
The conference was aimed at promoting women in the legal profession. Sisulu said she was pained by the scourge of domestic abuse and rape to which many women were subjected to.
“In your hands the law must be our liberator as women, not an instrument of oppression."
She encouraged them to be part of the discourse in the public space on issues that affected all South Africans.
Participation on important issues would help in the transformation of the country, said Sisulu
