Port Elizabeth - Two Fin24 users have praised the arrival of internet ride-sharing service Uber in Port Elizabeth as a service that could provide reliable transport in the city.
Uber on Tuesday announced that Port Elizabeth has joined Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban in having the service. Uber first launched in South Africa in 2013.

Port Elizabeth was chosen by Uber for its next South African expansion owing to the city’s 1.1 million population size, the company said on Tuesday.
Uber officials also said that the service would undergo a testing phase in Port Elizabeth at first as supply and demand ramps up.
Amid the announcement, two Fin24 users have said the service is a welcome development in Port Elizabeth.
Fin24 user Justin wrote:
“I think it is high-time that a reliable public-type transport service is offered in this part of the Eastern Cape, which also happens to be the regional manufacturing and business hub. Reliable public transport is non-existent in Nelson Mandela Bay. The arrival of Uber is very welcome in these circumstances! Here’s hoping residents give it the support it deserves and from the outset, too.”
Fin24 user Jenny wrote:
“Brilliant, our teenage daughters use Uber constantly when we are in Durban and Cape Town - Port Elizabeth is in desperate need of Uber. More advertising needs to be done in Port Elizabeth so all our teenagers can catch onto this brilliant service offered and support it 100% . Too many kids are driving under the influence because there is no service such as Uber in PE. Let’s keep our kids safe and promote the services of Uber in our city.”
