Johannesburg - Fin24 users have asked why somebody would want to spend R18 000 on an iPhone 6s.
Earlier this week, Fin24 reported that a buyer from Amanzimtoti, near Durban, bought a 128GB Rose Gold iPhone 6s for R17 999 on e-commerce website bidorbuy.
South Africa’s weak rand looks likely to have an impact on iPhone 6s prices as local online retailer CaCell is selling the iPhone 6s 16GB device for R15 999.
Meanwhile, CaCell is also selling the iPhone 6s 64GB for R16 999 and the iPhone 6s 128GB for R18 999.
The new iPhones will officially be available in South Africa on October 16 with operators such as Vodacom taking pre-orders on October 9.
In the meantime, Fin24 users have reacted to the high pricing of the new iPhone range in South Africa.

“I wouldn’t pay that much for a phone even if it is an iPhone. If I had money to waste I would have donated it to charity. Maybe the guy works for government.”
Fin24 user Delwin said:
“I definitely won’t fork out that much for any cellphone regardless of what it is. I like iPhones but their price tag makes me step back. iPhone and Samsung is like Audi and Hyundai. We know the Audi is better quality and built better but the value for money on the Hyundai makes it a strong competitor.”

“Spending R18 000 on iPhone 6s? No way. I’d rather buy Android for quarter the amount.”
Fin24 user Ernie said:
“It is because there are people with more money than common sense, that we have to pay the prices indicated! Demand and supply is one thing, but highway robbery is something else. Even with the farcical exchange rate, they should not cost those exorbitant prices, but in the end it is about ‘I have one and you don't!’.”

“If had R3m in the bank yes, if I have R50 000 in the bank, no. Some people are more fortunate than others therefore monopoly companies will maximize on the more fortunate then move along to the less fortunate with other deals. It’s like asking people to pay R100 for a coke in a rose gold can, however the coke inside is still normal coke. With patients will come better deals.”
