Online porn needs strict control in SA - Fin24 users

Cape Town - South Africans have expressed shock that online porn is growing at an alarming rate in the country.

Fin24 reported that according to pornography platform Pornhub, locals spend over 10 minutes per visit consuming racy content.

But some South Africans were shocked that Pornhub served over 78 billion video views in 2014 alone.

"I think it is highly demonic and should be dealt with very rapidly, so I say that the age limit for porn should be 100 years," wrote Fin24 user Tshegofatso Poolo.

"It's all working together with other depraved things that are happening in the world today. It's all leading to the downfall of the world, as what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. Believe it, don't believe it, as with everything in life, the choice is yours," added a Fin24 user under the blairbrownrose handle.

Control measures to protect children

Some suggested a registration programme to protect children from porn content.

"I think you should register with your ID number to authorise the site. This will eliminate minors to enter the site and attract the more serious porn enthusiast," wrote Gus Wiesner.

"Yes, there must be very strict controls on porn. What are we introducing our kids and future generation to! You wonder why morals decline and how these sites contribute to it all for the sake of monetary gain," added AAN Padayachee.

Luke Davidson doubled down on the theme of control to prevent minors from accessing porn, adding that porn can lead to psychological effects.

"The dramatic psychological effect this could have on a population of children is still unmeasured, and if this becomes the main source of stimulation it warps one’s mind and will more than likely develop a lot more erectile dysfunction problems in young males into the future."

'Keep it in kinky shops'

He added: "Quite frankly, I feel it would be better if it was simply banned online and kept in kinky shops. I feel that would be a better way to keep our kids safe and also provides a level of experience and possibly more excitement to the adult industry."

Robert expressed the view that porn is easily accessible.

"Many people struggle with porn addiction. That is, they do what they do not want to, mainly because porn is so accessible. Porn is the only drug freely available to anyone, any time, any place," he wrote.

"What is more, it piggybacks on healthy sexual drives; no one is born with a nicotine addiction but everyone has sexual desires. This stacks the deck against people who often start accessing porn at a young age."

"Ban porn! Porn potentially could turn any individual not in a healthy relationship into a rapist or molester. Porn viewing is the highest, rape and violence also the highest in the world," suggested Fin24 user Henry Meier.

But the derision against porn was not universal, with a few Fin24 users indicating that no control measures should be taken.

"No, it is not out of control and no measures should be implemented," wrote Lesiba Kekana.
