Durban - “It was so scary,” South Africa’s latest internet sensation told Fin24 - after a video of a Pretoria lady wearing a virtual reality headset for the first time – went viral on Facebook.
A hilarious video clip of 50-year-old Janet Bean using a VR headset for the first time garnered thousands of views after her son, Jannie, posted it on Facebook to share with family and friends.
“I was watching the clip of this scary clown, and then I was holding a knife, when I turned to my right, the clown was there!” she told Fin24.
Businessman, Jannie Bean, who said he is a techie at heart, recently got his own Samsung Galaxy Gear VR and desperately wanted his mum to see how the technology works.
“My mum is always a bit fragile and I wanted to see how she reacted to scary videos on VR,” Bean told Fin24.
“I actually thought that my Facebook account had been hacked because every time I went online I saw thousands of more views on the video - we really didn’t expect it to get this much reaction,” he said.
Viewing content on a virtual reality headset allows the wearer to see a 360 degree view of content around them.
By Thursday at 4pm, the original video had reached over 160 000 views and had been shared over 5500 times on Facebook.
