Johannesburg - Necessary system changes have prompted Standard Bank to schedule downtime for certain banking activities and transactions on February 7.
The bank says the system changes are needed to “provide a single customer view and ensure a consistent customer experience across different channels” and to protect personal data.
Customers are expected to have limited access to bank account facilities such as beneficiary payments and inter-account transfers.
Meanwhile, other service disruptions are set to include ATM deposits being unavailable and the bank’s app, internet and cellphone services being offline.
“These system changes will result in planned downtime on Sunday, 7 February,” said the bank in a statement on Wednesday.
“This will affect the ability of customers to perform certain banking activities and transactions from 2am on Sunday morning until 8pm that evening,” said Standard Bank.
Despite disruptions to services, the bank said it expects that customers will still be able to use their debit, cheque or credit cards to make in-store purchases and cash withdrawals at ATMs.
Mobile app transaction services such as SnapScan and MasterPass are also expected to work, said Standard Bank.
Amid the planned disruptions, Standard Bank is asking customers to make payments or do banking transactions before February 7.
Standard Bank’s planned outage, though, comes after a series of unplanned glitches on its platforms in April, August and September last year.
