ShowMax starts accepting eBucks payments

Johannesburg - Local internet video streaming service ShowMax is now accepting FNB eBucks payments in a bid to widen its customer base.

The company, which is owned by internet and media giant Naspers, announced on the weekend that eBucks can be used to buy vouchers of one, three, and six-month denominations.

The vouchers can also be debited directly from a customer’s account, said ShowMax.

ShowMax further said that depending on an eBucks member’s rewards level, a discount of up to 40% is applicable on the six-month voucher.

A one-month ShowMax voucher costs R99, a three-month voucher R297, and six-month vouchers are R594.

“Getting payments right is a key to building your customer base in South Africa, and we’ve had a lot of requests to add additional payment methods. Having multiple voucher options gives ShowMax an advantage over other services,” said Chris Savides, head of payments and partnerships for ShowMax.

The launch of ShowMax vouchers has also been timed to coincide with the festive season.

ShowMax was launched in August this year as global companies such as Netflix have reportedly started to eye South Africa’s video streaming market.
