Cape Town – Customers who have been inconvenienced by the closure of a Cape Town Post Office branch have alternatives, the organisation has said.
The Century City Post Office branch closed due to rental issues, inconveniencing customers.
“I think it is imperative that you guys take a look into what's happening at the Century City Post Office in Cape Town. They were closed by their landlord on Saturday December 12 without warning,” Fin24 user Lindsey wrote.
The South African Post Office has significant financial difficulties that led to the branch closure.
“The closure of the Century City post office is due to rental in arrears, which is owing to our well-publicised financial situation. The SA Post Office is currently engaging the landlord with a view to reopening the office as soon as possible and will immediately inform its customers when the matter has been resolved,” Khulani Qoma, spokesperson for the South African Post Office, told Fin24.
The closure is not the first as the organisation battles a cash flow crisis. In November, the Silverton Post Office also closed without warning after failuring to pay rent.
Several employees were also not paid their salaries on time at the end of last month.
For Century City, the Post Office has redirected mail.
“All recorded mail items and parcels addressed to the Century City post office can be collected from the Chempet Post Office, which is 4.2km away at the corner of Esso and Montague Drives, Montague Gardens,” said Qoma.
“For financial transactions, customers can also use the Edgemead Post Office, which is 5.5km from the Century City Post Office.”
