Cape Town – Internet subscription TV player ShowMax and service provider MWEB have partnered to grant South African subscribers three months of free access to the service.
Customers who sign a 12 month MWEB ADSL contract will receive three months free internet and ShowMax access, according to a joint statement from the two companies.
Both ShowMax and MWEB are part of internet and media company Naspers.
“ShowMax has a couple of killer features. First, with one subscription it’s possible to watch two different shows on two different devices simultaneously. This means you can watch Breaking Bad on the TV while the kids watch Shaun the Sheep on their tablet,” John Kotsaftis, general manager of ShowMax South Africa said in a statement.
“Second, we’ve added download functionality to our Android app, allowing you to use your home internet connection or a Wi-Fi hotspot to download and store up to 25 TV shows or movies onto compatible tablets and smartphones for viewing later,” he added.
ShowMax has been on a drive to expand its footprint in a drive to win customers over to its platform despite facing in-house competition from Naspers-owned [JSE:NPN] DStv BoxOffice.
The move to further expand its footprint also comes after US-based internet streaming service Netflix launched in South Africa last week.
