Johannesburg - Irate MTN customers took to Facebook and Twitter on Thursday to lambaste the mobile network with complaints of a lack of data availability and coverage.
The complaints come as MTN said it was experiencing network problems on Thursday.
“MTN is experiencing voice and data connectivity issues affecting some of its subscribers across the country," MTN said in a statement.
"Engineers are investigating the issue. MTN apologise to affected customers for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
But MTN customers on Thursday expressed their anger at the downtime.
One user on Facebook said: “My number has been offline for hours, no call centre to contact and standing in a queue for 30 minutes to be told you have a technical problem and there is nothing you can do - I'm losing business by the minute!!! This is ridiculous ... [I'm'] definitely porting over when back up.”
Another Facebook user said: “MTN ... please can you at least tell us all that you have an issue with coverage at the moment. Instead you just leave us all to wonder! Here is my wish - better service providers with better customer care.”
Some users on Facebook also complained that their service had been inactive since Wednesday night, with one user saying: “My network is down since last night. I called 173 and was told that the technicians are working on it. Please for how long must I wait?”
MTN’s Twitter handle @MTNza further saw a similar barrage of complaints on Thursday.
One user tweeted: “@MTNza any updates. No service since 5am this morning [Thursday]. Totally ridiculous. This is a business line please advise urgently”
Another user tweeted: “@mtnza I'm very frustrated. My phone has been without network since yesterday [Wednesday]. I'm very disappointed with your services”
