MTN 'gives away' 50GB and 10 000 minutes every month

Johannesburg  - Mobile operator MTN is it is giving away 50GB and 10 000 minutes to new and existing customers for the duration of their 24-month contract.

“New and existing MTN customers who sign up for a new contract or perform an upgrade on specific price plans with a device on Friday, 13 January, will receive an additional 50GB of data and 10 000 MTN-to-MTN minutes per month for the duration of the 24-month contract,” the mobile operator said.

The promotion is free additional value over and above the provisioned data and airtime in accordance with the price plan.

“Customers who qualify to receive these compelling offers are those who sign up for either one of these price plans: My MTNChoice+ S, My MTNChoice+ M, My MTNChoice+ L, Sky Lite, Sky Medium and Sky Max,” MTN said.

“Due to popular demand, MTN is once again extending this attractive offer to its new and existing customers,” Larry Annetts, chief consumer officer for MTN South Africa said.

“This compelling proposition will ease the January blues and ensure that our customers remain connected cost effectively throughout the duration of their contract,” Annetts added.

MTN is taking aim at Telkom’s FreeMe bundle offerings, with a free voice and data giveaway, according to contract comparison analysts Tarrific.

“It looks like MTN are competing with Telkom’s Free Me packages with this offer, or at least testing the waters. The Telkom Free Me packages also offer a substantial amount of On-Net free minutes, the difference with the Fri-Yay deals is that MTN have far more market share than Telkom, so MTN customer will really feel the benefit of these on-Net minutes,” Tarrific said.

Tarrific pointed out that the 10 000 MTN-to-MTN minutes was effectively 5.5 hours every single day for the next two years
“This should show a substantial saving to consumers. 50 GB - 1.6 GB a day, there are a few that will use more than this, but for the majority you won’t need to stress about data and bill shock of the next two years,” they said.
