Cape Town - Local employment startup Giraffe has launched operations in Cape Town and Durban on Thursday following its initial Gauteng launch.
Since launch, the mobile platform has attracted 100 000 job seekers who are able to create a résumé on mobile phones.
Around 25 000 candidates have so far been invited for interviews, according to the app.
“Our recruitment platform has reached a level of maturity such that we feel we are ready to expand to other key metro areas in South Africa,” said Shafin Anwarsha, Giraffe’s Head of Product.
However, the company is working to ensure that it conducts vetting of candidates to prevent abuse of the service.
“We link with home affairs and ID verification is done on every candidate. We also offer police, education and credit checks,” Anish Shivdasani, Giraffe chief executive and co-founder told Fin24.

“The interview pass rate is over 70%,” said Shivdasani.
Giraffe has employed geo-location software to match employers with employees in an automatic process, said Shivdasani.
“Users just need to keep their address updated. The algorithm will only send them jobs in their area.”
The expansion to Cape Town and Durban follows a funding round of $500 000 led by the Omidyar Network as well as a partnership with Facebook’s Free Basics initiative.
