Telkom launches uncapped R599 LTE packages

Johannesburg - Telecoms network Telkom is switching off capped limits for its LTE offerings in selected areas in Gauteng on a first come, first serve basis.

The promotional offer will happen in an online sale on June 10 to July 10 and a limited number customers who apply will be locked in to a 24 month contract with prices starting at R599 per month.

Telkom also says that the promotional packages will be “capped at 150 (customers) per base station to ensure a high quality customer experience with the service”.

The company explains that the introductory offer is planned to start at R599 for the first 50 customers, R699 for the second 50 and R799 for the final 50 available packages at each base station.

Telkom also only has LTE in certain areas in Gauteng and customers will have to check that the offering is available in their area. (Click here to check if your area is covered.)

The telecoms company is promising download speeds of up to 90Mbps and up to 25Mbps upload speeds.

“The uncapped high speed package means that customers can access the web at high speeds with peace of mind that their bill will not increase regardless of their usage,” said Attila Vitai, managing director of Telkom Mobile and Consumer, in a statement on Thursday.

The company further says that the online sale will be rolled out to more locations in coming months, although it doesn’t disclose which locations these will be exactly. Telkom says that customers who participate in the online sale after the 150 spots have already been taken, will be added to a waiting list.

Also, existing Telkom customers in the selected areas can transition to the new packages depending on availability at each base station, the company adds.

Telkom says the areas it has selected for the offer are based on where it has excess LTE capacity available.
