Cape Town - Can twerking get you thrown in jail? Apparently the answer is yes after three Russian dancers were given prison sentences.
Margarita Radetskaya (18), Yana Kutakova (24) and Yekaterina Scherbedinskaya (26) have been jailed for the suggestive dance moves in Novorossiysk, using WWII monument as a backdrop.
According to a report on the Guardian, the three were jailed for showing disrespect toward those who died in the Second World War.
A video of the dance was posted online and after garnering much interest on social networks, authorities acted.
The Telegraph reported that officials also fined two other girls and the parents of a 15 year old were also penalised.
As far as viral videos go, the dance video only has around 200 000 views on YouTube, but it follows a series of actions in Russia against artists.
In 2012, members of the punk band Pussy Riot were arrested following a performance at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow against President Vladimir Putin.
