Cape Town - Online classifieds provider OLX has announced that it has surpassed 200 million active monthly users.
The company amassed the total from its worldwide operations, including operations in SA.
OLX global CEO Alec Oxenford said the success was due to the growth in emerging markets.
"OLX recognised these opportunities early on and, as a result, we have successfully introduced the basic concepts of online classifieds, e-commerce and the value of used goods to hundreds of millions of consumers in developing markets around the world.”
OLX users generate around 11 billion monthly page views and in South Africa, users view at least 18 pages per visit to the site.
OLX is in competition with eBay-owned Gumtree and Junkmail for the South African market.
App Annie ranks OLX the top Android classifieds application, while on the Apple App Store, Classifieds by Savy Soda is ranked first in SA.
Applications that are focused on mobile users are seeing higher growth numbers as the majority of internet users access services from smartphones or tablets.
