Johannesburg - Internet service provider MWEB has been affected by downtime on Wednesday morning.
The outage reportedly affected MWEB’s ADSL internet services.
Meanwhile, MWEB submitted a post on its Facebook page explaining the problem.
“We are currently investigating an outage which is affecting some services hosted in our data centre in Cape Town,” wrote MWEB on its Facebook page at 07:34 on Wednesday.
“Engineers are on site. Updates to follow shortly. The outage has affected our telephony system, therefore you will not be able to reach our call centre at the moment,” said the company.
MWEB further posted an update that said “faulty hardware has been replaced and services should begin returning to normal within the next half an hour”.
UPDATE: MWEB statement
At 09:47, MWEB issued the following statement to Fin24 regarding the outage on Wednesday.
"MWEB experienced an outage between 07:00 and 09:00 today. All connections have now been re-established. The outage was caused by a hardware failure on one of its core network switches, affecting a number of services hosted in its Cape Town Data Centre. The faulty blade on the hardware has since been replaced and all services have been restored."

This has been the second outage for MWEB in just under a month.
