FNB website hit by downtime

Cape Town - The website for First National Bank (FNB) is down.

FNB's website was completely unavailable on Monday morning with users being presented with a "Connection timed out" error.

The mobile banking app was also unavailable on Monday but ATMs appeared to working normally.

Earlier on Monday morning Mo Hassem, FNB's chief information officer, said intermittent connectivity was a key reason for the downtime.

When the bank experienced a similar outage in 2014, the reason was related high volumes that affected "cross browser payments" at the time according to the bank.
