Cape Town - Cheaters aided by modern mobile technologies are getting more bold, a new survey suggests.
According to data from Victoria Milan, a dating website for attached and married people looking to cheat, up to 64% cheat while their intimate partners are in the same room.
They also appear not to be too concerned about getting caught with only 12% expressing fear that their partners would find out about their infidelity.
Predictably, the ubiquitous nature of mobile devices means that the around 90% of cheaters used smart devices to contact their lovers with 23% sexting from their homes.
"We know at Victoria Milan that often affairs remain a digital fantasy, a cheeky online flirt is enough to satisfy people. Moving this from the desktop computer to mobile devices means our members can sext from the office, the car, or as we've revealed, from the same room as their partner, and still keep their affair a secret", said company CEO Sigurd Vedal.
Private information
While infidelity isn't a new phenomenon and it would be ridiculous to suggest that the mobile era is responsible for cheating, smart devices have contributed to facilitating easier personal interactions through the social nature of mobile applications.
The fact that handsets are more akin to personal computers than simply phones means that people are more likely to store private information on them.
In additional new technologies might serve to expand cheaters' ability to conduct illicit affairs.
Researchers are working on a display that could one deliver tactile sense or holographic display, taking sexting or the exchange of sexually provocative images to the next level.
Victoria Milan polled 11 050 of its members to deliver the survey results.
