Johannesburg - Chaotic scenes from the State of the Nation Address (SONA) once again trended nationally on social media with many taking the opportunity to share their humour about the event.
On Thursday night, SONA 2017 sparked a barrage of memes, many of which were inspired before President Jacob Zuma even began delivering his address.
By the time Zuma took to the podium (more than an hour after his scheduled start time owing to disruptions in Parliament), hundreds of memes littered social media.

Internet trolls took aim at Number One himself, as well as other members of Parliament. This as blows were traded both physically and verbally among MPs in the house.
Some social media users made use of the popular 'Salt Bae' meme - a viral video of a Turkish chef flamboyantly salting meat. Meanwhile, others drew references from a recent episode of Dr Phil where a teenage girl's "Cash me ousside" phrase sparked internet popularity.

Apart from grabbing locals social media users' attention spans, antics in Parliament grabbed international headlines with the Wall Street Journal reporting: "Fighting Breaks Out in South Africa’s Parliament".
Similarly, Kenya's The Star run "Keynote Zuma speech disrupted as lawmakers brawl, walk out" headlining a video carried on their website.
Bloomberg TV also showcased visuals from the scuffle in Parliament between the EFF and security with the headline: "Lawmakers brawl at Zuma's keynote address".
