Johannesburg - A GoPro camera that was tied to a weather balloon and launched into space two years ago has finally been found.
In 2013, a group of students in the US put a GoPro camera inside a box and sent it flying above the Grand Canyon. The camera was attached to a parachute and the students conducted trajectory testing to try and determine where it could land.
The camera successfully soared for an hour and a half as it reached the stratosphere, only to come crashing back down to earth.
Unfortunately, the camera couldn’t be located at the time because it fell in a area with poor cellphone coverage. (The group of friends relied on an attached smartphone to help locate the camera when it fell back to earth.)
But fast forward to 2015 and a hiker in the Grand Canyon stumbled upon the device.
The result is this video showcasing the camera’s rise and fall.
The video has also thus far generated over 5 million views on YouTube.
