Johannesburg - Viral music video Gangnam Style briefly crashed YouTube’s code this week after surpassing a record 2,147,483,647 views, more than two years after the clip was first posted online.
The music video from South Korean group Psy has notched up so many views that it exceeded YouTube’s expected limit, the Google owned video website said in blog post this week.
YouTube subsequently had to make a code change to expand the limit of views to over nine trillion.
"We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. "Gangnam Style" has been viewed so many times we had to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (9,223,372,036,854,775,808)!" said YouTube.
The Gangnam Style song was released in July 2012 and shortly afterwards shot to global fame with fans emulating the South Korean’s crazy dance style in the video.
"Gangnam Style" refers to a lifestyle associated with the Gangnam District of Seoul.
The YouTube video also remains easily the most watched of all time, ahead of its nearest rival by at least one billion page views.
