Johannesburg - Tracking your parcel in the post may become easier as the South African Post Office (Sapo) has launched a new free app for Android and iPhone devices.
Sapo announced on Thursday that it has launched a new app dubbed simply the ‘South African Post Office’ which is available on the Google Play Store and iStore for Apple devices.
The app tracks and traces both local and international parcels via allocated tracking numbers, reporting where the item was dispatched from and who collected it.
The app further allows users to scan the barcode of a track-and-trace label to track an item.
“This is intrinsic to our new strategy of modernising our services as a group, with technology the critical enabler for customer solutions,” said Mthoko Mncwabe, Sapo’s Chief Information Officer in a statement. The app also has a “find branch” feature which Sapo said taps a user’s GPS location and provides a list of branches within a 10km radius.
The app further indicates whether motor vehicle renewals can be done at certain branches.
Sapo’s move to launch an app comes after it unveiled e-Registered mail earlier this year. Sapo’s e-Registered mail contains a full audit trail and proof of delivery.
