Cape Town - Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) me&you mobile has announced a new data bundle designed to entice consumers to its service.
The MVNO, which uses Cell C's network, has introduced a 5GB monthly bundle for R300, and reduced its 2GB data bundle to R250.
The company said that the offer has been driven in part because of customer demand.
"We saw a huge market demand for well-priced data products and created the 5GB data offering in response. We'll continue to innovate and launch products that the market is asking for," said Brett Howell, CEO of me&you mobile.
The 5GB data bundle offered is lower than the rate on Cell C, but Cell C undercuts the MVNO on the 2GB data bundle. Me&you mobile roams on the Cell C network.
SIM cards only
The data bundle pricing is designed to challenge rivals, said Howell.
"Our in-bundle data rates are highly competitive, especially if you look at our per megabyte rates."
The company offers SIM cards only on a month to month basis and runs a small outfit targeted mainly at potential urban customers.
"We don't throw millions into marketing, physical stores and other big overheads and are therefore able to pass those savings onto our customers. We also do not have the costs associated with expensive handsets built into our product pricing," Howell said, adding that the company exceeded its targets since launch in May.
In addition to data bundles, me&you mobile also offers an unlimited talk package for R300 per month, though that offer is subject to terms and conditions.
