Johannesburg - South Africa’s third largest mobile network Cell C says its network has suffered downtime in parts of Gauteng on Monday.
“Cell C is aware of a problem affecting voice calls and SMS for customers in the South of Johannesburg from Alberton to Bedfordview, the East Rand including Benoni to Springs and the Midrand area,” said the company in a statement on Monday afternoon after 14:00.
“Data is working normally. Cell C apologises for any inconvenience and we confirm that our engineers are urgently working on the problem,” said the company.
UPDATE - Cell C 'fixes' glitch
Cell C after 15:00 on Monday said its network problems have been resolved.
"Cell C can confirm that a problem caused by a hardware failure in one of our data centres affecting voice and SMS for some customers based in Johannesburg South, the East Rand and the Midrand areas was resolved just after 2pm," said the company.
"Full service to customers is restored. We thank our customers for their patience while our engineers worked on the problem and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused," Cell C added.
