Cape Town - South Africa’s number three network Cell C has embarked on an aggressive market move in which it is giving away up to R10 000 to customers.
The company, which has around 24 million subscribers in South Africa, on Wednesday announced the addition of its new contract packages in its ‘Pinnacle’ suite range.
Earlier this year, Cell C launched its Pinnacle plans and the company on Wednesday said that three of this category’s packages will be renamed to Pinnacle 600, Pinnacle 1000 and Pinnacle Unlimited.
Pinnacle Unlimited customers, for example, can now receive unlimited calls, unlimited SMS’s and 3GB of data with an added promotional 7GB of data for the duration of their contract term.
“They will also receive 1 000 free Wi-Fi Calling minutes and a whopping R10 000 cash back,” said Cell C.
Customers can take up a SIM-only plan or bundle any device on a 24-month contract, said Cell C.
Meanwhile, Cell C also plans to give away money for its Pinnacle 250 packages.
Customers of Pinnacle 250, at R299 per month, receive 250 minutes, 250 SMS’s and 250MB of data.
As part of a summer promotion, Cell C said customers will receive an additional 500 minutes, 500 SMS’s and 1 000 Wi-Fi Calling minutes per month – for the duration of their contract term.
“On the Pinnacle 250, customers will also receive a R3 000 cash back bonus, just for signing up with Cell C,” said the company in a statement.
Cell C’s new plans range from the Pinnacle 50 through to Pinnacle 400 and target a wider array of customer.
The company further said that customers signing up for a Pinnacle 100 and above, from October 1 2016 to January 31 2017, will “receive triple the value on inclusive voice and SMS, as well as an additional 1 000 minutes to call any-net using Cell C’s WiFi Calling service”.
History of cash giveaways
This is not the first time that Cell C is using cash giveaways to win over customers.
Last year, Cell C launched an initiative to give customers up to R10 000 to help buy themselves out of contracts with other networks.
The company then upped that offer to R20 000.
But in July, Cell C said that it had pulled its contract buy-out promotion from its franchise channel.
