Johannesburg - Afrikaans speakers in South Africa now have the option of a mobile network provider geared to their language needs.
On Tuesday, Western Cape radio station Bok Radio and local mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) provider MVN-X switched on Afrikaans-only mobile network ‘BokSel’.
As an MVNO, BokSel rides on the Cell C network, similar to networks such as FNB Connect or me&you mobile. Customers also only need to purchase a BokSel SIM card to access its network.

What differentiates BokSel from other MVNOs, though, is its exclusive use of Afrikaans for marketing its packages and notifications to customers.
“BokSel is a truly South African and Bok Radio's own independent mobile network,” says a translated version of the Boksel website’s about page.
“With BokSel you really have free rein - there are no 24-month contracts,” the network adds.
BokSel further has month-to-month agreements, giving customers the option to upgrade or downgrade.
The network is also promising affordable rates and nationwide accessibility.
Packages on the network range from R49 per month at call rates of 79c per minute to R1 000 per month for up to 1 000 minutes talk time.
The network also provides the likes of 100MB data bundles from R50 to 10GB of data for R599.
