Cape Town - A Vodacom network issue is causing problems in KwaZulu-Natal, leaving some users frustrated.
"Calls to my Vodacom number don't connect, it just disconnects on the caller's side each time they try to call my number," wrote Fin24 user Kevin Fabre from Westville.
"If I'm not at home with my ADSL then I'm completely in the dark. The only service that seems to work is SMS.
"It seems to be a wide network problem as I've travelled to Umhlanga, centre of Durban and now Westville and it's all the same," Fabre said.
The problem caused frustration with Vodacom subscribers in the province.
"To whom it may concern, just want to know what is going on with the Vodacom signal today thanks," added a user called Alex Giokos from Durban.
Investigation
He added that the problem has affected him since 09:00 on Thursday.
"Seems many people with the same problem. From Pennington to Durban that I know of," Giokos said.
Vodacom conceded that there were problems with the network, though the operator is still investigating.
"I don't have any details at the moment other than there appears to be a transmission issue which is causing intermittent problems with data connectivity and calls in KwaZulu-Natal," Vodacom executive head of Media Relations & Social Media Richard Boorman told Fin24.
The mobile network appears to have a localised problem and Boorman said that Vodacom interventions were bringing the network back into operation.
"Looks like the cause of the KwaZulu-Natal issue has been addressed and services should be recovering. The cause appears to have been software related in the core network, but we're still investigating."
