Johannesburg - Telecommunications company Telkom says it is expanding its LTE Advanced (LTE-A) network footprint to a further 22 suburbs across South Africa.
The network is promising download speeds of up to 150Mbps and last year Telkom announced it is rolling out the offering to Parkview, llovo and Melrose in Gauteng, Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay in Cape Town, and Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal.
“We have received positive feedback from our customers experiencing super-fast speeds on Telkom’s LTE-A network,” said Attila Vitai, managing director of Telkom Mobile and Consumer.
The next 22 suburbs to get the service now are primarily in Johannesburg, Tshwane, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. (View the list below.)
Telkom says its LTE-A technology runs on a 2.3GHz spectrum, which is said to be “unique” to the company and provides for faster internet services.
Faster mobile broadband roll outs are accelerating in South Africa as the country’s third largest network Cell C announced earlier this year that it plans to spend R8bn on building an LTE network.
