Johannesburg - Telecommunications network Telkom is attempting to take the hammer to costly out-of-bundle voice charges for its mobile network subscribers.
In a statement on Friday, Telkom said it is introducing “a range of mobile voice bundles” that it says won’t incur higher out-of-bundle charges.
“Once customers have depleted their available voice allocation, they can purchase voice bundles at an in-bundle rate instead of having to go out-of-bundle at a higher rate,” said Telkom in a statement.
Telkom’s announcement regarding its voice bundles comes days after the company also cut and altered its pre-paid data rates.

Out-of-bundle offering explained
Telkom explains that subscribers have an option to purchase once-off or recurring voice bundles to add to their current account.
Telkom also said that its postpaid, saver or top-up and pre-paid users are eligible to purchase its voice minutes bundles.

The company further explained that its voice bundle packages come in three variants and different denominations. These are ‘all-network minutes’, Telkom mobile minutes and Telkom fixed-line minutes.
Other parts of the deal include that once-off voice minutes bundles expire at the end of the next calendar month from the date of activation, the bundles will be billed on per second billing methodology and that international calling is excluded from the voice minutes bundles.
