Cape Town - Hisense has launched a new flagship phone in South Africa as the company moves to entice people to its brand.
On Thursday, the Chinese company launched the Hisense MAXE X1 phablet smartphone with a massive 17.2cm display. That puts the device nearly in the category of tablets.
The MAXE X1 is powered by a Snapdragon 2.3GHz quad core processor and sports an array of features normally found on more expensive devices.
The phablet has a 13 megapixel main camera and an equally respectable 5 megapixel secondary camera which should deliver crisp and sharp images.
This is the third major smartphone release for the brand in SA, following on the Prime 1 and Infinity Pure 1. It's part of a strategy to aggressively pursue market share in SA
"Taking it up a notch, the Hisense MAXE X1 phablet is now being launched and is correctly on par with many competing brands in the country, impressing with its most recent operating system, sleek exterior and high-tech features. In the next few months, we plan to expand on this mobile segment even further," said Ebrahim Khan deputy general manager of Hisense South Africa.
The MAXE X1 is powered by Google's Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system and has a recommended retail price of R4 999.
The device is available online from kalahari.com and Takealot.com
