Samsung takes shot at unknown iPhone

Cape Town - The next iPhone is not even released yet, but Samsung has gone on the offensive with a cheeky ad aimed at Apple.

On its YouTube channel the South Korean electronics giant took a shot at speculation that the new iPhone will have a bigger screen.

"You know that thing you've been waiting on for like two years? And how it's gonna be awesome and how it's supposed to blow your mind? Well it's been here this whole time," the ad says as it shows the Galaxy S5 and Apple 5S alongside to illustrate the difference in screen size.

Apple is expected to release a larger format iPhone in September and some have speculated that it will bump up the size to 5 inches or 12cm to compete with Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and others who all have large format displays.

On Tuesday, Apple reported an increase in profit driven largely by iPhone sales, particularly in the BRics region which includes SA.

Competition

Apple sold over 35 million iPhones, up from 31 million a year ago.

Samsung is the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer with a market share of over 30%, and according to industry trackers, it is increasing its lead over Apple.

The video expands a theme that Samsung employed when it advertised the Galaxy SIII, with the same tagline, "The next big thing is already here."
