Johannesburg - Mobile network MTN has cut subscription prices for its video on demand service FrontRow from R179 per month to R119.
FrontRow is a streaming service that offers television shows such as Sherlock and Castle.
MTN said in a statement that new subscribers are being charged the lower amount while existing subscribers will pay the new prices in August.
Users can also rent movies like Chappie and Brides Maids but pricing for these films remains the same at R15-R27 per rental.
The cut in MTN’s streaming pricing comes amid possible international competition in the local video on demand space.
Earlier this year, Fin24 reported that data centre company Teraco has been in discussions with Netflix to bring the service to South Africa.
