Cape Town - First National Bank announced on Tuesday that it would offer customers a digital banking platform at a lower cost.
FNB said that is offering bank clients a tablet for R99 per month as part of its push toward digital banking.
Customers can order the Lenovo Ideatab with 17cm (7 inch) display. The device has Wi-Fi as well as 3G connectivity.
"The addition of the Lenovo Ideatab to our device range means that for less than the cost of dinner and a movie, customers can now own a device that enables them to bank digitally; use as a learning tool; or for their gaming and entertainment needs", said Kartik Mistry, head of Smart Devices at FNB.
The bank pioneered device sales through its digital banking platform with the Apple iPad and consequently, it has a large slice of smart device sales in SA.
Customers who order the tablet will also get up to 500MB per month in data.
Competitor Standard Bank has also entered the smart device retail space though the bank offers Samsung and Apple products. Tablet offers start at the Samsung Galaxy Tab for R241 per month.
Those who wish to apply in person may visit any one of nine dotFNB stores, located mainly in shopping malls in major centres. There are stores in Galleria Mall, Amanzimntoti, East Gate Mall, Bedfordview, and Canal Walk, Cape Town, among others.
Mistry said that the bank would continue to drive devices and digital banking platforms.
"We will continue to expand our range of devices to as many of our customers as possible, at accessible price points and teach them how to use their devices, so that we can ensure customers have access to our digital banking channels."
