Johannesburg - Chinese manufacturer Huawei has hinted at the arrival and pricing of its flagship device the P10 - indications the device will be launched in the country soon.
After the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, the LG G6 on Tuesday, the Sony XZ Premium and now Huawei’s P10, the world’s top Android smartphones are poised for the South African market.
So which one will best fit your needs? Each device offers consumers different features, at different price points.
Samsung Galaxy S8: HDR certified
The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone has redeemed the South Korean company after it was dented by the saga of the fire-prone Note7 in late 2016.
With its new Infinity display, the S8 is truly a well-designed device, giving the optical illusion of being transparent.
The S8 also comes fitted with a screen which is essentially curved at the ends, like the older Samsung Edge devices. The infinity display makes the smartphone the first ever to be HDR certified.
Pre-orders for the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8 have already begun. The cash price of the device is R15 499 and that of the larger S8+ R17 499, with availability in the country from May 5.
The device features a great camera and upgraded camera for selfies.
LG G6: downgraded specs
Launched locally in Johannesburg, LG's G6 is undoubtedly a well-designed smartphone with a sturdy body, which has a completely different shape to that of its predecessor.
LG has however, downgraded many specifications on the device as well as ditching its venture into the modular space.
The device's primary camera has been downgraded from 16 megapixels to 13 megapixels.
The smartphone features a Snapdragon 821 chipset and a 3300mAh Li-Ion battery.
The LG G6 will retail at R14 629.
Sony XZ Premium: crystal clear in slowmo
The XZ Premium features 4K resolution and is able to offer super slow motion shots.
It has a 19 megapixel camera, shooting a massive 960 frames per second and ensuring crystal clarity when videos are slowed down.
The device will however go head-to-head with the iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S8+ with a price bracket expected to be between R16 000 and R17 000.
Huawei P10: bang for your buck
Most recently the Chinese electronics manufacturer introduced the world to its latest flagship smartphone the P10, which features a 20 and 12 megapixel camera and has been re-engineered to produce sharper images.
Huawei moved the fingerprint scanner from the back of the device on the P9 to the front of the device on the P10.
This week Huawei South Africa announced that the recommended retailing price for the P10 is R 12 999 and R13 999 for the P10 Plus, offering bang for buck with the lowest price among all its competitors.
