LG X Cam: Great smartphone that falls short on photos

Johannesburg - LG has become one of the latest manufacturers to release a dual camera smartphone in the form of the X Cam.

The X Cam at first glance is a good-looking device with a stylish finish. In fact, the device also features one of the most uniquely designed slate-form smartphone bodies.

The gadget sports a “Precision 3D Arc Glass Design” according to LG, and while the body does feel very plastic, it does not feel ductile or flimsy.

It’s great to take it out of your pocket or bag to project a sophisticated persona at a coffee shop, much like the LG Stylus 2.

It fits comfortably in the palm of the hand and the X Cam is noticeably lighter than most smartphones.

The 5.2 inch multitouch display also has a 1080x1920 pixel resolution.

The X Cam further features a 1.14 GHz processor, 2 GB or RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a 2500 MAh battery.

For namesake of the device, the X Cam’s camera does offer many features – a 13 and 5 megapixel dual camera that allows the device to shoot 120 wide-angle and 78 degree photos.

There is also a photo Pop-out feature and filters within the camera app itself to save time in editing pictures after capturing them.

But while the rear camera on the device features a very snappy focus and boasts all the perks of a dual camera handset, the end-product is often a grainy photo without the sharpness and clarity one would expect out of a device such as this one.

And much like the rear camera, the selfies produced on the front-facing camera are also grainy and similar to that of older smartphones.

Apart from its camera, the LG X Cam will perform well as a phone, whether for business or entertainment.

The handset comes with a price tag of R 5499.
