Johannesburg - Apple on Friday announced that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus would arrive in South Africa by October 14, but Fin24 users believe the price tag it comes with is a rip-off.
The iPhone 7 cost will start from R12 999 while the 7 Plus will begin retailing at R15 499.
The cheapest Watch Series 2 which will also arrive on the same date, will retail at R6 899 with the most expensive going up to R19 499.

But Fin24 users expressed shock over the pricing.
“I love my iPhone 5s but that price for the 7 and 7 plus is bloody ridiculous really what do they think,” Fin24 user Willie said.
Short responses from Fin24 users included: “Eish….”; “Highway robbery!”; “Ridiculous!” and “Simply outrageous!!
Fin24 user Debbie said: “Absolutely ridiculous, most people will not be able to afford it so, why bother bringing it out.”
Expressing disappointment in the cost around the new iPhone, Fin24 user Roy said: “Extremely overpriced. Used to love it and always couldn't wait for the new launch. I never took out phone contracts so all my iPhone purchases were cash. But for the last 3 - 4 years. I just could not afford them anymore.”
“Worst thing about owning a smartphone on prepaid is that your pay as you go data fee's don't last you either. Amazing phones!! Just too expensive unfortunately,” he went further to say.
Fin24 user Jumbo said that South Africans were being ripped off.
“If the 7 plus starts at R15 499 it equates to over $1050 which you can get for $769 overseas. What really pisses me off is that the Apple importer is obviously not paying retail prices and therefore just pulling the piss,” he said.
“I will wait till someone goes overseas and can bring me back one from there as I am tired of being ripped off by South African companies who don’t have the brains to realise that everyone has access to Google,” he added.
However some Fin24 users were a little more comfortable with the new iPhone pricing, user Steve simply calling it a “bargain”.
Wesley said: “Regarding the price of an iPhone I feel it's actually pretty decent if you look at the product you getting and especially compared to its rival the Samsung priced a lot higher.”
“I have only used the previous iPhone 4 and was really impressed with the phone. I'm currently using a Samsung Note 5 and am not happy at all so yes I think a change to the iPhone is on the cards most definitely,” he added.
“But yes as far as pricing is concerned I believe Apple is excellent and although R14 999 is still a lot of money it's much better than paying almost 20k for a Samsung. Apple is a lifestyle, Samsung is a product,” he said.
