HP makes a push for mobile first computing

Barcelona - US computing multinational HP has made a further push in mobile hardware and software development in attempts to own the mobile first computing space through three-in-one computing.

A pilot project in Germany is seeing 1 500 officers deployed on the country’s streets using the HP Elite x3 smartphone device to perform tasks a pen and paper would.

Michael Park, HP’s vice president and general manager for commercial mobility and software told Fin24 that the strategy allows a better workflow in numerous industries.

“We believe that we are in the early stages of what the next generation of what the PC is going to be,” he said.

The company launched the Pro x2 device as the latest product at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

The Pro x2 is the HP’s latest two-in-one detachable device that’s designed for mobile professionals who want a device that is easy to use.

The device is light and mobile, bearing in mind that it is still essentially a laptop and work station.

Differentiating themselves from other company, who are purely focusing on releasing smartphones or PCs. HP has announced a line-up of accessories and attachable devices to products like the Pro x2 and Elite x3.

The accessories include a rugged case, docking stations, retail solutions for the x2 and rugged cases and scanning attachments for the x3.

Park said that the latest accessories for the devices are designed for workflows and the hardware optimises productivity in industries.

“We are trying to start mobile first computing without needing to rewrite all the applications that enterprises are using,” Park told Fin24.

“Today, more than 60% of millennials work from more than one location and by 2020 they will be a majority of the workforce. They want sexy mobile devices that meet their on-the-go work styles and IT needs these devices to be manageable, serviceable and secure,” Park said.

“Only HP is combining these amazing mobile form factors with the built-in security and vertical workflow capabilities with a lower total cost of ownership,” he added.
