Cape Town - Despite a slight drop in sales from the holiday season, the Orange Store announced a new leader in the top selling smartphones and products on its platform.
British smartphone producer Wileyfox has jumped into the top slot on the online platform for the first three months of 2016. It knocks out the Sony and Lumia devices that dominated the platform for the last six months.
“As expected, the first quarter of the year saw a slight decline in sales compared to Q4 of 2015, owing to the high sales during the holiday period,” said Blake Levitan Orange Horizons South Africa country manager.
Here are the top selling smartphones on the Orange online store:
1. Wileyfox Swift
2. LG G2 Mini
3. Samsung Galaxy A3
4. Motorola Moto g (3rd gen)
5. Huawei P8 Lite
6. Google Nexus 5X
7. LG G4
8. Google Nexus 6
9. iPhone 6s (16GB)
10. Samsung Galaxy S5
Levitan highlighted the iPhone which has made an appearance in the top 10 for the first time.
“The locally sourced Apple iPhone 6s has done particularly well since its introduction to the Online Store. We are pleased with the sales results for the first quarter and the continuing support we receive from the local market.”
On Orange, the iPhone 6s sells for R11 175, compared to R13 999 from the local distributor.

Orange sells products not always officially available in SA but local brands might soon have a presence on the platform.
“We will continue to advance with our strategy to source more products locally for the online store, particularly in the smart device ranges, however customers can continue to expect a larger range of products sourced internationally that are not readily available in South Africa,” Levitan said.
