Johannesburg - In just a month, the world’s biggest smartphone makers will gather at one of the biggest conferences on the tech calendar – but Samsung will not be unveiling its latest phone.
Last year, the electronics manufacturer unveiled its S7 and S7 Plus devices during the 2016 Mobile Word Congress (MWC).
Thousands gathered at the event which included Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg giving a surprise keynote speech around virtual reality.
But the South Korean tech giant has since had to contend with the controversial explosion-prone Note 7, which has since been killed-off and blamed for the delay of Samsung’s next Flagship ‘S’ device.

Samsung’s chief of mobile, Koh Dong-Jin, told Reuters, during a press conference about the cause of the Note 7 explosions that the next S device would not be launched at MWC 2017.
Koh confirmed that Samsung would not be releasing, what online speculation deemed to be the 'Samsung Galaxy S8'.
The company is still expected to exhibit or even possibly launch a device during the trade show held in Spain.
Koh confirms months of speculation that the next device would be delayed after the Note 7 saga.

Last year, during the recall of the Note 7, Samsung also announced that those who had purchased the controversial device, could trade the device in for a discount on the company’s next flagship device.
Samsung on Monday also announced an 8-point battery safety check for its future devices.
Rumoured specs of the company’s next flagship device includes a 5.1 inch display, 12 megapixel camera and the Snapdragon 830 chipset with 6GB of RAM and a 4K display.
There may not be too many aesthetic changes in the S8. However, some believe that the next S device may feature a wall-to-wall display.
