Johannesburg - Fighting to stay relevant in the world, BlackBerry – South Africa’s first smartphone love – is likely to launch its second Android device.
Touted by the company as “the world’s most secure android smartphone”, the new BlackBerry DTEK50 recently appeared on the company’s website.
“You wouldn’t put money in a bank that didn’t lock its safe. Or leave the doors of your home unlocked at night. Having a smartphone that doesn’t take your privacy super seriously is the equivalent,” a statement advertising the device read on their website.
Earlier this year, the BlackBerry Priv Android smartphone was launched in South Africa with subtle advertising.

Since the launch of BlackBerry’s first smartphones in the country - which South Africans bought into for “free internet” through BlackBerry’s BES and BIS service – the company became known for security around their devices.
According to the BlackBerry website, the DTEK50 features the Android operating system, a 5.2” scratch resistant display, 13 megapixel rear camera and 8 megapixel facing camera.
The phone is further said to have “BlackBerry Security that protects the private details of your life from being hacked”
“DTEK50 ensures that how you share the private details of your life—your location, your pictures, your texts—is your decision,” the website read.
“Not all smartphones are equally secure. With DTEK50, you have built in armour protecting your personal information,” it went further to say.
Availability and costing of the device in South Africa is still to be announced.
