Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6, is now available from Vodacom.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 has been hailed by JK Shin, CEO of Samsung’s mobile division, as the most advanced smartphone in the world.
Design: Combining metal and glass
Samsung has swapped its signature plastic design for a more stylish one of metal and glass.
The matte aluminium also adds to the design, with Samsung saying that it is 1.5 times stronger than any metal material in the smartphone market.
Its glass body is made from Corning Gorilla Glass 4, some of the toughest glass made to date, and is available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum. The Gold Platinum is exclusive to Vodacom.
The screen remains 5.1 inches in diameter, but the display’s resolution has increased to 577 pixels per inch, up from 432 in last year’s Galaxy S5.
It also boasts a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display, which promises clear and vivid images.
The S6 is slightly lighter at 138 g, thinner at 6.8 mm and narrower at 70.5 mm than the S5, but is a bit taller at 143.4 mm.
Camera: Twice as bright
The Samsung Galaxy S6 sports F1.9 lenses on both the front and rear cameras to maximize the amount of light that can reach the sensors, even in low light conditions.
According to Samsung, this enables Galaxy S6 photos to be two times brighter than the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Cameras on both sides will have wider openings to let in more light for sharper photos, promising high image quality even in low light conditions.
The resolution of the phone’s rear camera is 16 megapixels, and the front camera is 5 megapixels.
A new ‘Quick Launch’ feature also gives users fast, direct access to the camera from any screen by simply double clicking the home key button.
Battery: Cord-free super charging
The Samsung Galaxy S6 uses wireless charging technology and supports PMA and WPC certified chargers.
The device also sports fast wired charging, 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5, providing about 4 hours of usage after only 10 minutes of charging.
Technology: Cutting-edge core processor
The phone integrates Samsung core technology, with the world’s first 14nm mobile processor on a 64-bit platform.
Its new LPDDR4 memory system and UFS 2.0 flash memory provides higher performance, Samsung said, and enhanced memory speed with lower power consumption.
Users can also stream high resolution video while using less power thanks to the 1440P/VP9 hardware based codec.
