Cape Town - Media24’s e-commerce division is getting an injection of international expertise, after Dutch-born Vincent Hoogduijn was appointed its chief executive on Thursday.
Media24 CEO Esmaré Weideman said Hoogduijn’s extensive international e-commerce experience, leadership skills and strategic thinking abilities will be an invaluable asset to Media24’s e-commerce operations.
“We’re delighted to welcome him to South Africa and look forward to see to which great heights he will take this exciting and rapidly expanding division of Media24,” she said in a statement.
Media24 e-commerce division comprises of spree, efinity and ShopGuru.
Hoogduijn would join the company on March 1, 2015, or sooner if his work visa is approved before then.
He has replaced Krishna Motukuri, who left Media24 to return to the US after very successfully establishing Media24’s e-commerce division.
A history of e-commerce success
Hoogduijn is currently consulting to companies in Dubai wishing to set up e-commerce operations or improve their e-commerce offerings.
He has gained extensive management and e-commerce experience in Poland, Norway, Ireland, Italy, Spain, France and Scandinavia over a 15-year period.
He was until recently the international development director of online retailer Buyagift, where he turned around its loss-making operation in France and successfully launched new businesses in Spain and Italy.
Before this he was managing director of Komplett, an online electronic retailer.
Vincent holds an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and currently lives in Delft, the Netherlands, with his wife and three children.
