Cape Town - UPDATE: Facebook up and running again.
Facebook appeared to be down for South Africans on Thursday.
Users were unable to access the site from around 10:00 and page requests resulted in an error message. "Oops, something went wrong" read a message on the popular social networking site that boasts over one billion members.
The problem appeared to affect the mobile site as well as the desktop website. Even the mobile application appeared affected by the outage, though it is not clear whether the problem is localised.
The company announced this week that it was rolling out a Snapchat-like application and it is unclear whether the outage is related to the release.
