AFGRI is, through its private company Nedan, involved in the processing of oilseeds, a much-needed activity in SA’s food processing and fast food industries.
Nedan extracts oil from soya beans, sunflower seed and cotton seed, and processes the oil and various other raw materials into edible oils, fats and high-protein textured products. The company is currently the market leader in texturised soya protein for human consumption and oil cake for the animal feeds industry.
To cater for the growing demand for sunflower oil and meal in the SA market, Nedan recently invested in a sunflower preparation plant at its facilities in Mokopane (Potgietersrus) in Limpopo. Sunflower oil is one of the most popular oils for human consumption in the SA retail market, and the new sunflower plant can process 90 000 tons of sunflower seed a year. This is an exciting area for AFGRI and one in which AFGRI will continue to evaluate and invest in expansion opportunities.
