Johannesburg - Are you thinking about building a cottage or sub-dividing your property and sell off portions of it?
If you are then the good news in that local municipalities are encouraging and supporting more density in urban areas, attorney Liora Bamberger of Liora Bamberger and Associates told Fin24 in an interview.
She said that the aim is to avoid an urban sprawl and to save the municipality billions on rands.
"It costs the municipality billions of rands to lay pipes and services further and further afield.
"That is why they encourage more density in existing suburbs where there is an existing infrastructure of water and services and electricity of course."
Bamberger said it shouldn't take more than six to twelve months to rezone property and permission will be needed from neighbours.
