Top 5 luxury destinations for families

May 16 2016 07:36

Vacationing with the family is never an easy feat, or should we rather say that keeping everyone in the family on holiday, happy, is no easy feat! Ensuring the destination will be a place the entire family can enjoy can take a lot of thought and planning.

Taking the children on holiday doesn’t mean giving up on the luxury that you’re accustomed to, or the much needed relaxation. There are many resorts and five star hotels around the globe that cater not only for your holiday needs but also ensuring the kids are kept happy and busy.

Take a look at our top five luxury destinations for families:

1. Denis Island, Seychelles

The private Denis Island in Seychelles offers secluded cottages and villas surrounded by palm trees and soft sand. The cottages provide space for two adults and up to three children, and the Beach Villa has space for two adults and two children as well as its’ own private pool so kids can have fun splashing around while you keep an eye on them. The cottages and the villa are also near to the main building, restaurant, bar and the outdoor pool.

Activities for children: The Island offers great outdoor activities like snorkelling, canoeing, swimming, fishing and bird watching as well as boat trips and diving lessons for children over the age of 10. The various activities allow families to explore the rich marine life of Seychelles together. For younger children, there are nature tours.

2. Babington House, Somerset, UK

Boutique-style Babington Hotel has its own lake, tennis courts and croquet lawn. The 32 rooms include suites, split-level mini-houses and there is the Lodge, which is a two-storey, three-bedroom cottage.  Other attractions include indoor and outdoor pools and the Cowshed Spa with pamper treatments for the whole family. Off-site a concierge can organise for you to go rock climbing, horse riding or even ballooning.

Activities for children:  The mini-houses include activity packs for children when they arrive as wells as sterilisers, changing mats and baby baths. There are free crèche facilities for children that are older than one-years-old which has a selection of games and entertainment. During the holidays, cooking classes and outdoor activities are organised by the hotel. Babington House has their own small cinema which shows a variety of films including those catering to children. There is also a high tea every evening just for children.

3.  Les Fermes de Marie, Megeve, France

For the family who loves to ski, there is Les Fermes de Marie in Megeve, France. It boasts beautiful suites of cabins with picturesque views and luxurious but simple décor. There is a collection of restaurants, bars and the Fermes’ cookery school to entertain you on days that you are not hitting the slopes.

Activities for children: The biggest attraction for children is the junior après ski. It is set in a ‘children’s hamlet’ which is run by concierge and has activities such as baking, stagecraft and sports.

4. The St. Regis Mauritius

Located on the beautiful island of Mauritius is the elegant St. Regis is a great resort for families to travel to. Close to tourist attractions such as the Seven Coloured Earth and the giant tortoises, the hotel has great benefits such as excellent restaurants and the Iridium spa.

Activities for children: St. Regis has the Kite Flyers Club, a kids club that offers a range of activities such as crafts, water sports, fancy dress adventures, board games and Petit Chef cooking classes. There is also an entertainment area, sleeping room and professional supervisor and attendants who are at the Kite Flyers Club at all times.

5. Can Totxa, Mallorca

Built to resemble a traditional Mallorca finca, Can Totxa, is a villa that runs like mini five-star hotels. Each villa has four bedrooms and comes fully staffed with maids, gardeners – even nannies. Live in absolute luxury with the modern design and features such as underfloor heating, air conditioning, high speed internet pool, tennis court and a view that overlooks the Mallorca countryside.
