Cape Town - KFC has made a comeback in Harare after an absence of more than 10 years and some consumers are happy, while others are wary.
Fin24 reported on Wednesday that person behind KFC’s reopening is Kevin James.
He is a top investor in the fast food sector in Zimbabwe and owns Consolidated Farming Investments.
"I heard KFC had just opened an outlet in Harare," wrote one user to Fin24. "Have you ever visited them," he asked.
A response from Stacy Gillam answered his question.
"We visited KFC on the opening day. What a refreshing experience," she told Fin24.
Gillam said the service was fast and the chicken was delicious. "WOW. Love, love, love it."
Another user queried the facts about the story.
"Here has been a KFC for some years in Bulawayo ... so it’s not the first", he wrote.
Malcom Sharara, Fin24’s correspondent in Zimbabwe, referred to his original article, stating the "KFC outlet in the outskirts of Harare’s CBD is the first in Zimbabwe after more than a decade absence".
He said the two other KFC franchises in Zimbabwe were long closed, however the owners kept the names on display.
"Before closure, the KFC franchise holder in Zimbabwe was Firmside Investments, which also held the Wimpy franchise."
Azania Keke said there is nothing special about KFC, warned against an "untold number of illnesses such cholesterol and high blood pressure due high fat and salt contents".
"Zimbabweans have all along been eating healthy grilled home grown chicken and potatoes."
However, a user who calls himself Frank van Kaapstad said new outlet will be a moneyspinner. "This KFC will be a raging success."
"No matter where you are in Africa, people love a bit of fried chicken and they'll find the money to buy it."
