Fin24 has received numerous letters from former employees of
First Tech and its subsidiary Cosira. One of them reads as follows:
I am also jobless because of these issues; First Tech Group bought Cosira and
we are now jobless.
Where do you find a job in this country? We already have a high rate of
unemployment and First Tech just added thousands into it.
We were kept in the dark for months, only to be told to pack our belongings
within a week. No salary and no benefits. Why is this issue kept under the
carpet?
Last week we went to Benrose (First Tech Group head office) - apparently they
said that's where we will get our UIF forms - and to our surprise we were
addressed outside the building. I was just an employee as well, I know I am not
the only one hurting - there are thousands of us and (we) only need one voice
but we don't know what to do.
Cosira was a very big company and losing your job overnight is just insane and
ridiculous.
Mid-July we were told our jobs were safe as there is business rescue in
progress and we should not panic. A few days later, Jeff Wiggill got shot and
days after things turned ugly for all of us.
Why didn't the CEO (Andy Bertulis) come back to explain, as he had done when he
guaranteed the safety of our jobs? We have a lot of unanswered questions. We
have bills to pay.
I saw a bright future for my child as I knew I had a permanent job, but things
turned around in just two weeks. If only they'd told us three months ago, we
would have been able to prepare for this.
