Fin24 user Wolfgang Gruner says good can come from Gauteng's controversial e-toll system:
Yes, you read that correctly. The good thing about e-tolling is that it presents South Africa with a wonderful opportunity.
Here we have a system that just about every South African is opposed to. We can, if we choose to take the opportunity, stand united against the ridiculous and wasteful e-toll system.
E-tolls can be beaten! If we unite and resist “the urge to get tagged”, we will succeed in causing its collapse. In doing so we will win back our country and our freedom.
We will earn the respect from a government that has been allowed to act with impunity for too long. We will send out a clear message that South Africa belongs to its people and that the government is there to serve us.
Government must once again be held accountable. Government must serve with honour, strength, conviction but also with humility. Mayors, MECs and presidents can only call themselves leaders if they earn that title by serving well.
Let us seize this golden opportunity. Let us thank e-tolls for the only good thing that can come of it.
Let us ensure the demise of e-tolling and restore faith in our democracy.
